What this assumes
Monthly USD list prices by contact tier. Your count rounds up to the top of its tier.
Mailchimp offers 15% off for 12 months on 10,000 or more contacts. That isn’t applied here.
Numbers are per account, and each account is billed on its own.
Left out of this estimate
SMS credits, which Mailchimp prices by country inside the account.
Overage charges if you pass your contact or send limit. Mailchimp doesn’t list the rates.

How does Mailchimp pricing work?
Mailchimp charges by plan and contact tier. Essentials starts at $13.00 a month and Standard at $20.00, both for 500 contacts, while Premium starts at $350.00 for 10,000. Your plan also sets a monthly send limit of 10, 12 or 15 times your contact tier.
Plan price = the tier at or above your contact count
Send limit = top of your tier × 10, 12 or 15, by plan
Monthly bill = plan price × accounts

Mailchimp cost worked example
A hypothetical Shopify store is on Standard with 50,000 contacts, and sends each of them 10 emails a month.
Plan price at 50,000 contacts: $450.00.
Send limit: 50,000 × 12 = 600,000 emails a month.
Emails sent: 50,000 × 10 = 500,000, which is within the limit.
The estimate is $450.00 a month at list price. Contact 50,001 moves the store to the $630.00 tier, so removing contacts you no longer email is worth doing first.
What are Mailchimp’s list rates?
Mailchimp lists Essentials from $13.00 up to $385.00 at 50,000 contacts, Standard from $20.00 up to $800.00 at 100,000, and Premium from $350.00 up to $1,600 at 200,000. Above that it quotes custom Premium plans. Free covers 250 contacts and 500 emails a month.

Mailchimp offers 15% off for 12 months on 10,000 or more contacts, which isn’t applied here. SMS is a paid add-on, priced by country inside your account.
Does Mailchimp cost more with more users?
Only at the seat limit. Essentials includes 3 seats, Standard 5 and Premium has no limit. Past that, you move up a plan, and that can cost more than the extra people suggest. For most teams, though, contacts move this bill, so a growing list costs more than a growing team.
Who counts as a contact in Mailchimp?
Subscribed, unsubscribed and non-subscribed contacts all count toward your total and your price. Archived, cleaned and deleted contacts don’t. So an old list full of unsubscribes still costs money each month. Archiving contacts you no longer email is the simplest way to lower your tier without losing their history.
What makes a Mailchimp bill jump?
Passing a contact tier. Standard goes from $135.00 at 10,000 contacts to $230.00 for the next tier, so one contact can add $95.00 a month. Hitting the seat limit on your plan also forces a move up, so check both before a big import.
What happens if I go over my Mailchimp limit?
Mailchimp bills overages automatically after a free trial, and it won’t stop your campaigns as long as you pay them. Its public pages don’t list the overage rate, so this estimate leaves that part out. If you regularly pass your send or contact limit, compare the next tier up.
How much does Mailchimp cost above 200,000 contacts?
Mailchimp doesn’t publish it. Premium tops out at $1,600 a month for 200,000 contacts on the public price list, and larger accounts go through sales for a custom plan. We don’t estimate a price it hasn’t published. Ask for the send limit in writing, since that shapes the quote.
