Which plan fits

Standard fits with 15-minute syncs. Enterprise adds 1-minute syncs and enterprise database connectors, and would make this bill $2,623.

What this assumes

  • Pay-as-you-go list prices. Fivetran says an annual contract saves up to 22%, and that isn’t applied here.
  • Each connection has its own price curve, so connections don’t share a volume discount.
  • A row counts once a month however often it changes. Initial syncs are free, and each new connection gets 14 free days.
  • With history mode on, repeated updates to a row count as more rows.

Left out of this estimate

  • Activations (reverse ETL), which have their own price curve.
  • Your warehouse bill for storing and transforming the data.

How does Fivetran pricing work?

Fivetran charges for monthly active rows, or MAR: each distinct row added, changed or deleted in a month, counted once. Each connection has its own price curve, with a $5.00 base charge. On Standard, 1 million MAR costs $500.00, and the rate per million falls as volume grows.

  • Connection cost = base at the tier + (MAR − tier start) × rate per million
  • Model runs = free to 5,000, then $0.01, $0.0070 and $0.0020 each
  • Monthly bill = every connection’s cost + model runs

Fivetran cost worked example

A hypothetical 50 to 100 person B2B SaaS company is on Standard. Eight SaaS connections change 200,000 rows each a month, one database changes 5 million rows, and dbt models run 15,000 times.

  1. Each SaaS connection: $104.00, so 8 cost $832.00.
  2. The database: $1,068.
  3. Model runs: 10,000 paid runs × $0.01 = $100.00.

The estimate is $2,000 a month at list price. One busy database costs more than all eight SaaS connections together, so that table is the first place to look.

What are Fivetran’s list rates?

Fivetran’s Service Consumption Table prices each connection on a curve. On Standard, a connection with 1 million MAR costs $500.00, 4 million costs $1,010 and 16 million costs $1,706. Enterprise and Business Critical cost more at each point. The first 5,000 model runs a month are free.

Does Fivetran cost more with more users?

Users are unlimited on Standard, so more people don’t change the bill. Fivetran charges for the rows that change, connection by connection. A company with five people and one busy event table can pay more than a company with 500 people whose CRM data barely changes from month to month.

What counts as a monthly active row?

A monthly active row is a distinct primary key that was added, updated or deleted in the month. It counts once, however many times it changes. A row updated 30 times is one MAR, but it’s counted separately on each connection, so syncing the same table to two destinations counts it twice.

What makes a Fivetran bill jump?

Tables that change often. A status column that touches every row each day makes the whole table active. History mode adds more, since repeated updates to a row count as extra rows. Deletes count too. Splitting data across many connections also costs more, because each connection starts on its own curve.

How do I keep Fivetran costs down?

Sync only the tables and columns you use, since unused tables still count when they change. Check which connections and tables drive MAR in the usage dashboard. Use soft delete or live mode instead of history mode where you don’t need every past value, because repeated updates then stop counting as paid rows.

Is the first sync free?

Yes. Initial syncs don’t cost anything for the historical data they load, and each new connection gets 14 days of free usage. Paid rows start with the changes after that. So a large history backfill is free, and your first bills show the normal monthly change rate for that source.

Most of a Fivetran bill comes from a few tables. Our Fivetran implementation work sets up connections and sync settings at a fixed price.
