What does a Gong MCP server do?
A Gong MCP server lets an AI assistant ask Gong about an account or a deal. Gong's server answers plain-language questions and generates structured briefs from calls and emails, and it can link the calls and emails it used. It returns analysis. Transcripts, message bodies and activity lists stay in Gong.
- The Gong MCP client is the opposite direction: Gong connects out to other MCP servers so its own AI agents can use them. It doesn't let Claude or ChatGPT read Gong.
- Source links are off by default. Ask for sources in your prompt and the tools return links to the calls and emails they used.
Is there an official Gong MCP server?
Yes. Gong documents the read-only Gong MCP server in its help center, for Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot. Its Gong Collective listing describes the same three tools. Community projects exist too, and Gong doesn't publish them. gongctl is one, and its author calls it unofficial.
gongctl: an unofficial, local-first CLI and read-only MCP server posted in Gong's community by Arthur Lee. It syncs approved Gong data into a SQLite or Postgres cache you control.
What is the Gong MCP server URL, and how do you sign in?
The URL is https://mcp.gong.io/mcp, from Gong's setup guide. You sign in with OAuth through your Gong login. A tech admin first creates an MCP server integration in Gong. Manual registration gives a client ID and secret for your AI tool. Automatic registration needs neither.
- Gong's setup guide selects Personal access, so each member sees only what they can already view. Shared access reaches all of your Gong data.
- Registration type and authorization context can't be changed after you submit.
- Gong says to create a separate integration for each AI tool. With no matching integration, the connection fails.
What can a Gong MCP server read and change?
It reads only. Gong says the server doesn't create, update or delete data in Gong or your CRM. ask_account and ask_deal each answer a question about one account or deal. generate_brief builds a multi-category summary. Private calls are excluded from all results, and a contact brief needs a CRM contact ID.
What it can read
ask_account: answers plain-language questions about a single account.ask_deal: answers plain-language questions about a single CRM deal.generate_brief: a structured summary for an account, deal or contact.
What it can change
- Nothing. Gong says the server is read-only.
How do you set up a Gong MCP server in Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor?
A Gong tech admin starts in Admin center: Settings, then MCP under Ecosystem, then New MCP server integration. Team members then add the Gong connector in their AI tool. Gong documents Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot. It publishes no Cursor steps, so Cursor needs the generic route and an admin's help.
Claude
Gong's Collective listing offers the Gong for Claude app, or a custom app from its setup guide. Claude needs a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan.
- A tech admin creates an integration with the redirect URI
https://claude.ai/api/mcp/auth_callbackand selects Personal access. - For the listed app, install Gong for Claude from Claude's connector directory and sign in to Gong.
- For a custom connector, go to Customize > Connectors, click + Add, then Add custom connector.
- Enter
https://mcp.gong.io/mcp, plus the client ID and secret if the integration is Manual, then sign in to Gong. - Turn the connector on in a chat from the + button, then Connectors.
ChatGPT
Gong's ChatGPT listing offers a ChatGPT plugin, or a custom app from its setup guide. ChatGPT needs a Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu plan.
- A tech admin creates an integration with the redirect URI
https://chatgpt.com/connector/oauth/5WeF23mjRcsxand selects Personal access. - For the listed plugin, find Gong under Plugins in ChatGPT, install it and sign in to Gong.
- For a custom server, open Plugins, select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.
- Enter a name and
https://mcp.gong.io/mcpas the server URL. - Set authentication to OAuth, add the client ID and secret if the integration is Manual, review the risk warning and select Create as a plugin.
- Sign in to Gong.
Cursor
Gong names no Cursor steps. Its guide says to take each client's redirect URI from that client's docs, and Cursor lists http://localhost:8787/callback for the desktop app. A tech admin adds that URI to a Manual integration, then you add the server to ~/.cursor/mcp.json.

}What can you ask a Gong MCP server?
Ask about one account or deal, and name a date range. Gong's credit guide says to combine related questions into one request, and to pick a deal over an account when the question is about one opportunity. These examples fit ask_account, ask_deal and generate_brief. Each one spends credits.
Spends credits
For the Acme account, over the last 30 days: what objections came up, who raised them, and what did we say? Include sources.

What are the limits of a Gong MCP server?
Credits are the main limit. Each paid core seat includes 2,000 credits a year, shared across the company. Analysis costs 0.1 credits an email, 0.3 for a call up to 10 minutes and 1 for a longer call. At zero, MCP calls that need credits return an error from Gong until credits are added.
- Repeat questions cost again. Gong says four separate questions can analyze the same calls and emails four times.
- A brief analyzes the conversations once per open-ended section, and each web search in a brief costs 10 credits.
- Admins get alerts at 60, 80, 90, 95 and 100 percent, and credit profiles can set monthly limits per person or team.
- Collaborators can't use the server. Each person needs a paid seat.
How much does a Gong MCP server cost?
Gong shows no public price. Its pricing page says licenses are priced per user, plus a platform fee, through a custom proposal. The MCP server is on any Gong plan, with no separate fee listed, but each request spends Gong credits. Gong doesn't publish a price for extra credits.
- MCP calls use the same credits as the equivalent API request.
- Briefs run in Gong's own interface are free. The same brief through MCP costs credits.
- Included credits reset each contract year. Purchased credits last until the end of the contract term.
- Your AI client has its own plan: Claude Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise, or ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu.
What are the alternatives to a Gong MCP server?
Other routes are an automation bridge, a rival call tool's server, or a CRM server. Zapier can expose Gong operations as MCP tools, and each tool call uses two Zapier tasks. For deal records beside your calls, the CRM MCP comparison covers the main CRM servers.
- Salesloft MCP: A read-only beta for conversations and deals, for Salesloft Agentic customers.
- Attio MCP: Searches call recordings, if your calls sit in Attio.
- Zapier MCP: Gong operations through one Zapier connection.
- Salesforce MCP: Deal and account records, if Salesforce is your CRM.
Which skill goes with a Gong MCP server?
Gong's server can't change data, but every request spends credits. Use the free Agent write safety skill to set approvals and spending rules before people or agents run it at scale. Use the Marketing context kit to write down your deal stages and account names, so prompts stay narrow.
- Agent write safety: Sets approvals and spending rules before agents run credit-based tools.
- Marketing context kit: Holds your deal stages and account names in one folder for every prompt.
