Write a responsive search ad and watch it build on phone and desktop. Every line counts characters the way Google does, and the checks flag text Google’s policies don’t allow.

Google picks which headlines and descriptions show, and how. A real ad can look different.
Paste a list of lines and they fill the fields below.
Sample shown. Type over it with yours.
5 of 15 headlines, 2 of 4 descriptions.
No problems found.
Runs in your browser with no sign-up. What you type stays on this page, and we only record that the tool was used. A copied link carries your ad text after the #, so share it only with people you’d show it to.
How to use the Google Ads preview
Add your final URL and up to two paths.
Write at least 3 headlines and 2 descriptions. Paste a list of lines into one field and they fill the fields below it.
Watch the counters. They turn red over the limit, and Korean, Japanese and Chinese characters count as two.
Press Shuffle to see other combinations, and read each one out loud. Any headline can sit next to any other.
Copy the ad text, or copy a link to share the preview with a client or colleague.
What are the Google Ads character limits?
A responsive search ad takes up to 15 headlines of 30 characters and up to 4 descriptions of 90 characters, with a minimum of 3 headlines and 2 descriptions. Each of the two path fields takes 15 characters. Every character in Korean, Japanese or Chinese counts as two.
This tool previews responsive search ads. Sitelink and callout limits are here for reference.
How many headlines show in a responsive search ad?
Google says up to 3 headlines can show in the headline position, picked from the ones you wrote. It tests combinations, so don’t write headlines that need each other to make sense. Pin text only if it must always show, because Google says pinning isn’t recommended for most advertisers.
How does Google count characters in an ad?
The limits are the same across all languages, but every character in a double-width language like Korean, Japanese or Chinese counts as two. This counter follows that, so a 15-character Japanese headline already sits at the 30-character limit. Other languages count one for each character you type.
Does keyword insertion count toward the character limit?
Your default text has to fit. Google says to keep it short enough for the limits, and lists too many characters as a common reason keyword insertion fails. This counter reads {keyword:default text} as its default text, so the count shows the version your ad falls back to.
What ad text does Google disapprove?
Common reasons are repeated punctuation like “flowers!!”, emoji, decorative symbols, and spelling tricks like “fl@wers”. Editorial rules also cover capitals used for effect, extra spaces, repeated text and phone numbers in ad text. This tool flags the ones it can read from the text.
Is this the same as Google’s Ad Preview and Diagnosis tool?
No. Google’s tool, inside your account, shows whether a live ad appears for a search. This one shows how an ad you’re still writing could look, with no account needed. Use this before launch, then use Google’s tool afterwards to check the ad is really serving.
Will my ad look exactly like this preview?
Not exactly. Google picks which headlines and descriptions show, and changes the layout by device, query and assets. Treat this as a check on length and how lines read together. The preview inside Google Ads shows more once you build the ad there.
