LinkedIn MCP

LinkedIn's one MCP server with a published URL is LinkedIn Hiring Pro, and it only drafts and posts one free job from Claude. In ChatGPT, LinkedIn also publishes a people lookup app. Its developer docs show no server for organic posts or Sales Navigator, so those routes are third-party, such as Buffer.buffer.com/guides/integrations/mcp.html) posts through its own server. Community servers drive your own LinkedIn browser session, and LinkedIn's User Agreement bans scraping software and unauthorized automation.

What does a LinkedIn MCP server do?

A LinkedIn MCP server lets an AI assistant work with LinkedIn on your behalf, and the scope depends on who built it. LinkedIn Hiring Pro drafts and posts one free job. Third-party servers schedule organic posts through their own apps, or read profiles and send messages through your browser session.

Is there an official LinkedIn MCP server?

Yes, for job posts in Claude and people lookup in ChatGPT. Claude's directory lists LinkedIn Hiring Pro as made by LinkedIn, and OpenAI's lists a LinkedIn plugin from LinkedIn. LinkedIn's developer site also shows a Develop with MCP link, but the page behind it has no public docs, tools or URL. Everything else here comes from a third party.

  • Buffer: a hosted server from Buffer that creates and schedules LinkedIn posts through your Buffer account.
  • stickerdaniel/linkedin-mcp-server: an Apache-2.0 community server that runs on your machine. Its page says it isn't affiliated with LinkedIn or Microsoft.

What is the LinkedIn MCP server URL, and how do you sign in?

LinkedIn Hiring Pro's URL is https://mcp.linkedin.com/mcp-hiring-pro, and Claude's listing says sign-in is required. Buffer's server is at https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp, and most clients connect with OAuth. The community server runs locally, so it has no public URL, and it reuses a LinkedIn login from a browser on your machine.

What can a LinkedIn MCP server read and change?

Hiring Pro changes one thing: it posts a free job after you select Agree and post. Buffer reads your channels, posts and metrics and can create, edit and delete posts. The community server reads profiles, companies, jobs and your inbox, and it can send messages from your account.

How do you set up a LinkedIn MCP server in Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor?

LinkedIn lists Hiring Pro in Claude's directory and a people lookup plugin in ChatGPT's, and names no Cursor steps. For organic posts, the ChatGPT and Cursor steps below follow Buffer, which documents Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor. Keep approval prompts on, because Buffer's create_post can publish immediately.

Claude

LinkedIn Hiring Pro is a listed connector in Claude. For organic posts, Buffer's guide has you open Customize, then Connectors, and search for Buffer.

  1. Open the LinkedIn Hiring Pro listing and select Add to Claude.
  2. Sign in to LinkedIn when prompted.
  3. Turn the connector on in a chat from the + button, then Connectors.
  4. Give Claude the job details, then check the full job in LinkedIn's review. Nothing posts until you select Agree and post.

ChatGPT

LinkedIn publishes a people lookup plugin in ChatGPT, so install that from its listing to look up professionals. For organic posts, Buffer documents a custom connection through Developer mode. ChatGPT's current flow is under Plugins.

  1. On ChatGPT web, open Plugins, select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.
  2. Enter Buffer as the name and https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp as the server URL.
  3. Set authentication to OAuth, review the risk warning and select Create as a plugin.
  4. Sign in to Buffer and approve access.

Cursor

LinkedIn names no Cursor steps. Buffer documents Cursor with New MCP Server under Tools & MCPs. The same entry works in ~/.cursor/mcp.json. Click Connect and approve access.

What can you ask a LinkedIn MCP server?

Hiring Pro handles one job post, so most first prompts go to the server you use for posts. These examples fit Hiring Pro's flow and the tools Buffer lists. Keep every write behind a review, and name the channel and dates so the assistant shows what it used.

  • Writes

Draft a LinkedIn job post for a part-time content marketer from the notes below. Show me the full job in LinkedIn's review before anything posts.

  • Reads

How did my LinkedIn posts perform last month? Tell me which channel and dates you used, and don't change anything.

  • Reads

What times does my LinkedIn channel post at? List next week's queued LinkedIn posts. Don't change anything.

  • Writes

Save these three LinkedIn post ideas in Buffer. Don't schedule or publish anything.

  • Writes

Move my Thursday LinkedIn post to Friday at 9am. Show me the post and the new time before you save it.

What are the limits of a LinkedIn MCP server?

Hiring Pro handles one free job, and LinkedIn allows one active free job post at a time. LinkedIn's rules are the bigger limit. Its User Agreement bans scraping software and bots that message or post, and LinkedIn's help page says accounts using these tools may be restricted or shut down.

  • Section 8.2 of the User Agreement bars bots and other unauthorized automation that adds contacts, sends messages, or creates, comments on, likes or shares posts. It also bars software, including browser plugins, that scrapes or copies LinkedIn.
  • A browser-session server acts as you. Each message or connection request from stickerdaniel/linkedin-mcp-server comes from your own account, and its README warns that accounts using automated tools can be restricted or banned.
  • LinkedIn's API Terms of Use bar using the APIs to automate posting, so keep a person approving each post on any API route.
  • Buffer counts MCP requests against your plan's rate limits in 15-minute, 24-hour and 30-day windows, and its connection covers your whole account.
  • Profile text and post content come from other people, so keep tools that read them out of chats that can also send or publish.

How much does a LinkedIn MCP server cost?

Hiring Pro posts one free job, and LinkedIn says promoted job pricing varies. Buffer's server is on every plan, including Free, which covers 3 channels and 10 scheduled posts per channel. Paid plans start at $5 a month per channel. The community server is free, and you run it yourself.

What are the alternatives to a LinkedIn MCP server?

For organic posts, use a scheduler's own server such as Buffer or Metricool, or an automation bridge. Zapier exposes LinkedIn's Create Share Update and Create Company Update actions as MCP tools. For paid campaigns, use a LinkedIn Ads route, which reads Campaign Manager data.

  • Buffer MCP: Creates and schedules LinkedIn posts through your Buffer queue.
  • Metricool MCP: Schedules posts and reads LinkedIn post metrics.
  • Zapier MCP: LinkedIn share and company update actions through one Zapier connection.
  • LinkedIn Ads MCP: Routes for Campaign Manager reporting and changes.

Which skill goes with a LinkedIn MCP server?

Use the free Agent write safety skill before you connect anything that can post or send messages, because a LinkedIn action goes out under your name. Use the Marketing context kit to write down your naming rules and definitions once, so every draft and report starts from the same facts.

We set up Claude Code and MCP for marketing teams, with access scoped per person and approval before anything changes.
