Make a link that opens a new email with the recipients, subject and body filled in. Spaces, line breaks and symbols are encoded for you, so the link works when someone clicks it.
The words people click, for the HTML and Markdown versions.
Sample shown. Type over it with yours.
Note: This link is 143 characters. RFC 6068 sets no limit, but mail apps and browsers can cut long links, so test it.
Runs in your browser with no sign-up. This page loads no ad tags and no session recording, and we only record that the tool was used. The addresses and text you type stay on this page.
How to use the mailto link generator
Add one or more addresses to To. Cc, Bcc, Subject and Body are optional.
Write the body with normal line breaks. They’re encoded for you.
Pick Link, HTML or Markdown, then copy it.
Press Test in my email app to see the draft open before you publish the link.
How do you format a mailto link?
A mailto link is mailto: plus the address, then a question mark and fields joined by &. RFC 6068 separates several addresses with commas, and asks for spaces as %20 and line breaks as %0D%0A. Characters like ?, & and # inside a value have to be encoded too, or they end the field.
A plus signEncoded so it can’t read as a space. RFC Editor

How do I add a subject and body to a mailto link?
Add a question mark after the address, then subject= and body= joined by &. So mailto:hello@example.com?subject=Pricing&body=Hi%20there opens a draft with both filled in. Encode each value first, or a space or & in your text will break the link. This generator does that for you.
How do I add line breaks to a mailto body?
Use %0D%0A for each line break, which is what RFC 6068 requires. A plain line break or a br tag won’t work, because the link can only hold encoded text. Type the body normally in this generator, and each new line is encoded for you.
How do I add multiple recipients to a mailto link?
Separate the addresses with commas, like mailto:one@example.com,two@example.com. That’s the format RFC 6068 defines. Cc and bcc work the same way as fields after the question mark. This generator also accepts semicolons, spaces and new lines, and turns them into commas.
Is there a length limit for mailto links?
RFC 6068 sets no limit, but mail apps and browsers can cut long links, and they don’t all stop at the same point. Keep the body to a few short lines, and link to a page for anything longer. Then test the link in the apps your readers use.
Why does a mailto link open the wrong app or nothing at all?
A mailto link opens whatever the browser or device has set as its default email app. If none is set, or the reader uses webmail, nothing useful may happen. That’s why it helps to show the address as plain text too, so people can copy it.
Are mailto links safe to put on a public page?
They work fine, but the address sits in the page source, where spam bots can collect it. Use a shared inbox rather than a personal address, and keep filters on it. A contact form hides the address, but it’s more to build and maintain than one link.
