# ZoomInfo Alternatives: Choose by the Job You Need Done

The best ZoomInfo alternative replaces the work your team actually uses: contact discovery, verified phone data, enrichment, account signals or CRM maintenance. Start with that job, shortlist two candidates and test the same records and workflow. A lower subscription is useful only when the replacement preserves accepted coverage, field ownership and the actions that make the data valuable.

## Which ZoomInfo alternative fits which job?

Start with Apollo for combined prospecting and sales execution; Lusha or UpLead for focused contact access; Cognism for a phone-led evaluation; and Clay, FullEnrich or BetterContact for enrichment workflows. Evaluate account-intent products separately. When the need is filling existing CRM fields, test the CRM's own enrichment before buying another prospecting platform.

Martechdevs provides implementation services. We are not a data vendor in this comparison, and our [GTM engineering service](https://www.martechdevs.com/gtm-engineering) is separate from the tools' subscription and usage charges.

| Job to replace | Initial shortlist | The decisive test |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Find contacts and execute a sales workflow | Apollo | Representative seller tasks, accepted data and CRM behavior |
| Reveal email or phone details | Lusha, UpLead, Cognism | Correct person, current employer and usable required channel |
| Recover gaps across sources | Clay, FullEnrich, BetterContact | Additional accepted records after duplicates and rejects |
| Prioritize accounts using signals | 6sense, Demandbase, Cognism Pro | Whether the signal improves a defined account decision |
| Maintain existing CRM properties | CRM-native enrichment or a controlled enrichment sync | Useful coverage without overwriting authoritative fields |

Shortlist from the required workflow and test your target population. The [Apollo versus ZoomInfo comparison](https://www.martechdevs.com/blog/apollo-vs-zoominfo) handles that narrower purchase; this guide covers replacing individual capabilities and testing the whole alternative arrangement.

## What part of ZoomInfo are you actually replacing?

Inventory recent usage before requesting quotes. Separate paid capability from useful capability: an included feature has no economic value if nobody uses its output.

ZoomInfo's sales packages distinguish Professional from Copilot Advanced and Enterprise. Its public scope ranges from contacts, CRM integrations and dialing to hierarchy, intent, visitors, Champion Tracking and workflows. Sales pricing is quoted, and payment frequency does not by itself establish cancellation rights. [ZoomInfo packages](https://www.zoominfo.com/pricing)

Use a representative operating period to answer:

- Which seats performed useful work, and which were merely assigned?
- Which fields were exported, accepted and used downstream?
- Which account signals changed prioritization or research?
- Which integrations, enrichment jobs and workflow rules depend on the product?
- Which separate tools could actually be retired after a replacement?
- Which exported records and historical evidence remain necessary?

Keep the unit of work explicit. Filling a missing company industry is not the same job as finding a new buying committee. Obtaining an email is not the same as maintaining a CRM's employment history. A replacement may cover one and leave another subscription necessary.

Use the [ZoomInfo pricing guide](https://www.martechdevs.com/blog/zoominfo-pricing) to specify the current package and renewal questions. Do not compare an enterprise quote with a self-serve price until their users, fields, volumes and required workflows are aligned.

## Which alternatives fit contact discovery and prospecting?

Choose the contact source whose accepted data and seller workflow meet the requirement. Start with the required channel and operating model, then use the same evaluation population for each candidate.

### Apollo

**Best for:** a small team that wants prospecting and sales execution together and can evaluate the required CRM workflow on a limited plan.

Apollo's own plan walkthrough lists annual-equivalent Basic at USD 49 per seat per month and Professional at USD 79. Those are annual commitments, not month-to-month offers. Its pricing FAQ confirms a permanent free tier, pooled team credits and expiry at the billing-cycle boundary. Confirm the selected package and checkout total before committing. [Apollo plan walkthrough](https://www.apollo.io/insights/more-information-on-what-they-are-paying-for-in-apollo-plan-detailsusage-walkthrough), [billing FAQ](https://www.apollo.io/pricing)

**Pros:**

- Data access and seller execution can be evaluated in one workflow.
- Published annual seat benchmarks make an initial budget possible.
- A permanent free tier provides a limited starting point.

**Cons:**

- Seat price does not establish the complete usage cost.
- Email, phone, waterfall, enrichment, AI and export operations can have different credit treatment.
- A convenient interface does not prove coverage for your region or role mix. [Apollo credit rules](https://knowledge.apollo.io/hc/en-us/articles/9527776320781-Review-Credit-Usage-in-Apollo)

**Free and startup fit:** the free tier supports an initial workflow check. Apollo's startup programme offers 50% off Basic or Professional for one year, up to five seats. Eligibility includes fewer than twenty employees, no existing Apollo subscription, a valid company domain and an eligible startup-ecosystem partner affiliation; nonpartner applicants can ask about next steps. Budget year two at the then-applicable undiscounted rate rather than extending the introductory discount. [Apollo for Startups](https://www.apollo.io/startups)

**Choose Apollo when** the combined workflow performs well on your audience. **Skip it as a complete replacement when** required account intelligence or CRM behavior remains outside the evaluated plan. The [Apollo pricing breakdown](https://www.martechdevs.com/blog/apollo-pricing) helps separate seats from consumption.

### Lusha

**Best for:** a team needing focused contact reveals and a relatively small evaluation before building a broader enrichment workflow.

Lusha's free offer provides 40 credits per billing cycle. Standard reveals cost one credit for email and five for phone, but API/MCP calls and Lusha CRM exports can add charges. Its credit guide lists one credit for an API/MCP call returning up to 25 results and one per Lusha CRM export; Pro-and-above waterfall matches use different rates. [Lusha plans](https://www.lusha.com/pricing/), [credit guide](https://www.lusha.com/blog/how-lusha-credits-work/)

**Pros:**

- The free allowance can support an initial sample.
- Separate field charges make email-only and phone-led requirements visible.
- API and CRM routes can fit a controlled operational workflow.

**Cons:**

- Reveal-only arithmetic can understate end-to-end consumption.
- A phone-heavy workload spends credits differently from an email-only one.
- Vendor-billable data may still fail your identity or current-employer checks.

**Free and startup fit:** 40 credits are not 40 complete email-and-phone records. Obtain the current paid price and allowance for the selected credit volume; an older plan table is not a reliable order form.

For one previously unrevealed contact, a single API call revealing email and phone and then one billable Lusha CRM export would use `1 + 1 + 5 + 1 = 8 credits`. Batch calls and prior reveals can change the result; price the actual path. [Workflow charges](https://www.lusha.com/blog/how-lusha-credits-work/)

**Choose Lusha when** the required channel coverage and full workflow cost pass. **Skip it when** the purchase case depends on treating every credit as one complete accepted contact.

### UpLead

**Best for:** a buyer wanting a clearly specified self-serve contact allowance and a straightforward comparison between monthly flexibility and annual commitment.

| Plan | Month-to-month price | Included monthly credits | Annual display |
| --- | ---: | ---: | --- |
| Essentials | USD 99 | 170 | USD 74/month equivalent; 2,040 annual credits |
| Plus | USD 199 | 400 | USD 149/month equivalent; 4,800 annual credits |
| Professional | Custom | Custom | Annual arrangement |

One credit unlocks a contact for download or CRM export, with access to email and mobile data. Plus adds enrichment and suppression-list functions. The trial is seven days with five credits. Annual display figures are monthly equivalents; confirm the actual invoice and selected scope. [UpLead pricing](https://www.uplead.com/pricing/)

**Pros:**

- Published monthly allowances make a bounded evaluation easier to budget.
- The contact-based unit differs clearly from separate email and phone charges.
- Monthly Essentials or Plus can reduce the initial commitment.

**Cons:**

- The trial sample is too small to establish broad market coverage.
- A contact credit does not guarantee both required fields will be useful.
- The listed 170 or 400 monthly credits do not cover 1,000 new unlocks without additional commercial scope.

**Free and startup fit:** the five-credit trial is temporary, not a recurring free plan. Treat the vendor's accuracy percentage as a claim to test on your population, not your measured result.

**Choose UpLead when** its allowance and accepted coverage fit a defined contact workflow. **Skip it when** the necessary team, intent or enrichment features are absent from the price being compared.

### Cognism

**Best for:** a team where phone-led prospecting or a specific geographic segment is valuable enough to justify a scoped evaluation and quote.

Cognism's Standard and Pro packages include five seats. Pro adds intent and on-demand mobile verification; CRM enrichment is an add-on or standalone product. One credit reveals a contact. Its FAQ allows reuse during the contract and identifies job changes as a re-charge case; confirm the exact maintenance terms for the purchased product. [Cognism pricing and scope](https://www.cognism.com/pricing)

**Pros:**

- Mobile verification can be tested on the accounts that matter.
- Prospecting and maintained CRM enrichment have distinct purchasing scopes.
- Pro's intent option can support an account-prioritization evaluation.

**Cons:**

- There is no standard public dollar price to substitute for a quote.
- Five included seats may be more than a solo operator needs.
- Verification does not establish that a person is available, relevant or appropriate to contact.

**Free and startup fit:** request an agreed sample and commercial scope rather than assuming a recurring free plan or a published startup discount. A useful trial must include your countries, company sizes and required roles.

**Choose Cognism when** the accepted phone coverage or account workflow justifies its full cost. **Skip it when** the justification is only a broad claim that one provider is universally best for Europe. Measure the actual segment, including the difficult accounts.

## Which alternatives fit configurable or managed enrichment?

Choose a configurable workflow when the team needs its own decision logic and can maintain it. Choose a managed lookup path when obtaining the required fields is the main task. Both still need a clear acceptance rule and controlled downstream writes.

### Clay

**Best for:** a team needing configurable research, enrichment and decision rules, with an operator responsible for keeping the workflow correct.

Clay's billing help lists Launch from USD 185/month and Growth from USD 495/month. Growth is the relevant gate for CRM auto-sync. Actions and Data Credits are separate meters; bringing a provider key does not eliminate Actions or the provider's own bill. Public card and FAQ allowances differ, so confirm the selected allocation before modelling a commitment. [Clay billing help](https://university.clay.com/docs/plans-and-billing), [Clay pricing](https://www.clay.com/pricing)

**Pros:**

- Provider order and qualification logic can follow the actual use case.
- An existing provider relationship can remain part of the workflow.
- The operator can inspect intermediate outcomes instead of accepting one opaque final field.

**Cons:**

- Someone must maintain mappings, retry behavior and acceptance rules.
- Platform, data and external-provider costs can coexist.
- A trial feature is not proof the eventual paid tier includes it.

**Free and startup fit:** Clay lists a limited free plan; its billing help describes a fourteen-day trial with 1,000 Data Credits, excluding phone enrichment. Use the trial to test the needed integration, then confirm its paid-plan gate. [Trial conditions](https://university.clay.com/docs/plans-and-billing)

**Choose Clay when** custom workflow logic creates measurable value beyond simple contact retrieval. **Skip it when** nobody can own the system or a simpler existing integration already performs the job. Use [Clay pricing](https://www.martechdevs.com/blog/clay-pricing) and the [Clay-to-HubSpot workflow](https://www.martechdevs.com/blog/clay-hubspot) for the operating details.

For managed lookups, evaluate the result, charging event and CRM path separately. “Pay on success” describes the vendor's billing rule, not your final acceptance policy.

### FullEnrich

**Best for:** a team seeking a managed multi-source lookup path with email and mobile usage accounted for separately.

The selected 1,000-credit monthly tier shows USD 0.055 per credit, implying USD 55/month. Verified work email uses one credit and mobile uses ten; no-result lookups are not charged. The trial offers 50 credits without a card. Its current offer also includes search and CRM/API capabilities, so evaluate those directly rather than assuming enrichment requires an externally supplied list in every case. [FullEnrich pricing](https://fullenrich.com/pricing)

**Pros:**

- A managed lookup path can reduce orchestration work.
- No-result charging is separate from successful retrieval.
- The trial can reveal whether the required input and output fit.

**Cons:**

- Mobile-heavy demand consumes far more credits than email-only demand.
- A verified field may still belong to the wrong intended person or employer.
- The selected tier's unit rate is not a universal rate for every top-up or volume.

**Free and startup fit:** 50 trial credits support an initial check, not an assumed ongoing free allowance. Price the necessary CRM and API workflow and review effort.

**Choose FullEnrich when** its accepted incremental coverage is worth the complete cost. **Skip it when** a current source already covers the same accepted records and the extra layer contributes little.

### BetterContact

**Best for:** a team evaluating an accessible waterfall workflow with a clear distinction between basic email use and richer phone or verification features.

Starter lists USD 15/month for 200 credits; Pro lists USD 49/month for 1,000. Verified email uses one credit and mobile ten, charged on successful data. Pro includes mobile and catch-all verification; Starter does not expose the same feature set. There is a 50-credit trial without a card. [BetterContact pricing](https://bettercontact.rocks/pricing/)

**Pros:**

- A low monthly starting tier supports a limited evaluation.
- Published units make email-versus-phone demand visible.
- API access can support a controlled integration.

**Cons:**

- The lowest price is not the full Pro capability set.
- A returned field still needs the same identity and eligibility checks.
- More providers do not guarantee more distinct accepted people.

**Free and startup fit:** use the trial and selected monthly plan for a bounded test. Check feature gates instead of applying a broad FAQ promise to every tier.

**Choose BetterContact when** its incremental accepted output and operating fit justify another service. **Skip it when** the workflow needs features available only on a higher plan that the budget has omitted.

ZoomInfo also advertises its own GTM Studio waterfall with no additional waterfall fee, while retaining an Early Access label. Confirm actual access and the underlying package; the platform is not therefore free. Provider-count claims differ across its page, so use a real coverage test instead of selecting a vendor by logo count. [ZoomInfo waterfall scope](https://www.zoominfo.com/products/waterfall-enrichment)

The [waterfall enrichment guide](https://www.martechdevs.com/blog/waterfall-enrichment) explains how to measure the extra accepted records each stage contributes. Buying another layer is unnecessary when it repeatedly finds the same usable data.

## Which alternatives cover intent, job changes and visitors?

Treat these as signal workflows with distinct meanings, rather than interchangeable ways to find an email. Ask what was observed, at which entity level, how recently and which decision it can support.

| Requirement | Candidate capability | Important boundary |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Predict account opportunity likelihood | 6sense intent model | An account-level prediction is not a person's declared buying plan |
| Topic and account activity | Demandbase intent | Probabilistic signals require relevant keywords and account context |
| Topic surge within a prospecting package | Cognism Pro with Bombora | Include the selected topics and actual package in the quote |
| Job-change and web signals within custom workflows | Clay | Job-change and web-intent capabilities have different plan gates |

6sense's intent model uses account activity to estimate the likelihood of an opportunity opening within ninety days. Demandbase describes probabilistic account interest from keyword and activity evidence. Cognism identifies Bombora Company Surge as its intent source. These represent different observations and models; do not compare raw scores as if their scales were equivalent. [6sense model](https://support.6sense.com/docs/intent-model), [Demandbase intent](https://support.demandbase.com/hc/en-us/articles/360056755791-Understanding-Demandbase-Intent), [Cognism intent scope](https://www.cognism.com/pricing)

Clay lists job-change signals under Launch and web-intent capabilities under Growth. Lemlist separately advertises a buying-intent add-on with 100 signals per month at USD 29 on monthly billing or USD 21/month on annual billing; include the required base platform. [Clay plan gates](https://www.clay.com/pricing), [Lemlist add-on](https://www.lemlist.com/pricing)

For a visitor product, require the vendor to distinguish a company match from an identified person. An inferred company visit does not prove which employee visited or that a particular contact requested outreach. For a job-change signal, preserve the old relationship and confirm the new employer before altering records.

The [signal-based selling workflow](https://www.martechdevs.com/blog/signal-based-selling) turns those observations into reviewable next actions. Measure useful prioritization, duplicate alerts and false matches before treating a signal count as value.

## Can your CRM's own enrichment replace the subscription?

Yes, when the required job is maintaining fields on existing records and the native coverage is sufficient. That is a narrower replacement than a prospect database, phone-verification programme or account-intelligence suite.

HubSpot's standard data enrichment does not consume HubSpot Credits; smart properties are separately metered. Standard enrichment is available with the listed eligible paid subscriptions and permissions, using business contact identifiers or company domains to find matching data. [HubSpot enrichment eligibility](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/records/get-started-with-data-enrichment)

Do not turn it on broadly before testing field ownership. HubSpot distinguishes automatic enrichment of new records from continuous maintenance, and some enrichment methods can override configured mapping behavior. Test the exact method the workflow uses. [HubSpot enrichment settings](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/records/manage-data-enrichment-settings)

Use a small sample containing a blank field, an owner-corrected field, a conflicting vendor value, a customer and a suppressed contact. Read back the resulting record, associations and provenance. A successful API response is insufficient if it changed the wrong field or made the record eligible for an unwanted workflow.

Use [CRM data hygiene](https://www.martechdevs.com/blog/crm-data-hygiene) for ownership and correction rules. Keep any savings claim limited to the subscription or module that can actually be removed.

## Which shortlist fits the team's stage and operating model?

Choose the smallest shortlist that can cover the required work. The examples below are starting hypotheses to validate, with the runner-up serving a different operating preference.

| Team or situation | First candidate | Runner-up | Why this pair is useful |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Founder and a few sellers need contact research plus execution | Apollo | UpLead with the existing sales tools | Compare combined convenience against focused data access |
| Phone-led team with difficult country or role coverage | Cognism | Lusha | Test the required mobile segment and complete usage cost |
| RevOps team maintains custom qualification and writeback | Clay | FullEnrich with the existing orchestration | Compare workflow flexibility against a managed lookup path |
| Small team needs an email-only coverage supplement | BetterContact | FullEnrich | Compare incremental accepted records and review effort |
| HubSpot team mainly needs missing fields on inbound records | Native enrichment | A controlled Clay sync | Establish whether another platform adds necessary coverage or logic |

A more configurable product is a weaker fit when nobody will maintain it. A focused data tool is a weaker fit when its purchase leaves a critical account-intelligence or execution requirement uncovered. The relevant tradeoff is the complete arrangement the team can operate.

## How do you compare accepted coverage and full cost fairly?

Use one representative sample, one acceptance policy and one downstream workflow. A starting sample of 200–500 target contacts can expose obvious gaps, but it does not prove permanent superiority across every industry or geography.

Choose records independently of the competing providers. Stratify by your actual regions, company sizes and required roles. Keep a stable person-at-current-employer key and report uncertain matches separately rather than forcing every result into accepted or rejected.

| Metric | Numerator | Denominator | What it tells you |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Returned coverage | Targets with a returned candidate | All eligible targets | Whether the service returns something |
| Accepted coverage | Targets passing the complete acceptance rule | All eligible targets | Useful reach on the chosen population |
| Acceptance among returns | Accepted targets | Targets with a candidate | Review quality within the returned set |
| Full cost per accepted contact | Subscription, usage and valued review cost | Distinct accepted contacts | Resource cost of useful output |

A vendor-confirmed email can still fail because it belongs to the wrong person, a former employer or an excluded record. Define those outcomes before the test. Do not treat a duplicate found by a second provider as another accepted contact.

Consider an original hypothetical monthly email-only workload of 1,000 unique eligible targets. The subscription inputs below use the listed BetterContact Pro and selected FullEnrich tier. **All return counts, acceptance rates and review times are invented teaching assumptions, not measured results from either vendor.** No phone lookup, add-on or separately charged integration is included.

| Model input or result | Scenario A: BetterContact price input | Scenario B: FullEnrich price input |
| --- | ---: | ---: |
| Monthly subscription input | USD 49 | USD 55 |
| Assumed returned email candidates | 900 | 850 |
| Assumed distinct accepted contacts | 720 | 765 |
| Accepted coverage of 1,000 targets | 72% | 76.5% |
| Acceptance among returned candidates | 80% | 90% |
| Assumed review at USD 40/hour | 3 hours = USD 120 | 2 hours = USD 80 |
| Subscription plus valued review | USD 169 | USD 135 |
| Full cost per accepted contact | USD 0.235 | USD 0.176 |

The arithmetic is `(49 + 3 × 40) ÷ 720` and `(55 + 2 × 40) ÷ 765`. Both assumed found-email counts fit a 1,000-credit allowance under the stated email-only charging rules. Add real usage, integration, verification and maintenance costs before using this for a purchase.

If the same assumptions held for twelve months, the resource totals would be USD 2,028 and USD 1,620. Those are repeated monthly model costs, not annual vendor quotes. The apparent difference comes from hypothetical acceptance and labor inputs; it is not evidence that Scenario B performs better.

UpLead's 170- or 400-credit monthly plans cannot simply be placed in this 1,000-unlock model at their entry prices. Obtain the required capacity offer. For ZoomInfo, use your actual comparable quote and rights, not another buyer's reported contract median. For zero accepted contacts, unit cost is undefined; report spend and the failed evaluation rather than dividing by zero.

## How do you switch without losing useful data or control?

Start from the actual renewal and notice terms, then work backwards from the migration's acceptance tests. A sixty-day evaluation may be reasonable for one team and already too late for another contract.

| Phase | Work | Exit evidence |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Contract and dependency review | Confirm notice, access, retention and downstream uses | Written interpretation of the applicable agreement and owner sign-off |
| Parallel evaluation | Test the same audience and required actions | Accepted-coverage results and complete commercial scope |
| Integration rehearsal | Map keys, fields, suppression and workflow triggers | Controlled test cases pass without destructive overwrites |
| Cutover preparation | Record checkpoints, rollback and operators | Reconciled before/after sample and a usable recovery procedure |
| Retirement | Stop old jobs and revoke unneeded credentials | No stale writer, duplicate dispatch or orphaned owner |

Do not assume exported data remains usable forever after cancellation. Have the contract owner establish permitted retention and use, including copies in CRMs, warehouses and downstream systems. Keep your company's first-party relationship history distinct from licensed third-party fields.

During parallel testing, allow only the intended writer to update each production field. Two active enrichment products can otherwise overwrite each other and repeatedly trigger the same CRM automation. Preserve suppression continuously, and make reruns idempotent against stable record keys.

## When should you stay with ZoomInfo or renegotiate?

Stay when the capabilities you use demonstrably justify their full cost, or when a narrower package is more economical than a replacement plus migration and ongoing maintenance. An alternative is not better merely because its entry price is easier to find.

Ask the current vendor to quote the actual seats, modules and usage that passed the value review. Compare that proposal with the replacement's complete operating cost, any retained tools and the transition effort. Do not assume a standard discount or an automatic renewal increase without the agreement in front of you.

The decision should preserve the useful workflow and remove unnecessary spend:

![Define used jobs, target population and the acceptance rule, then test two suitable alternatives. Failed coverage returns to the shortlist. A commercially or contractually unjustified replacement retains or renegotiates the existing scope. Failed CRM cutover checks return through evaluation and costing before a controlled release.](https://www.martechdevs.com/assets/blog/zoominfo-alternatives.svg)

## Frequently asked questions

### Can two cheaper tools replace one expensive subscription economically?

They can, but include the work between them. Someone must own matching, retries, conflicting values, credits, credentials and downstream changes. Test the combined workflow and count any existing tools that remain necessary. A lower combined subscription can still create a higher operating cost if accepted coverage falls or the team spends substantially more time reviewing and repairing records.

### Does a verified phone number mean the contact is ready to buy?

No. Verification concerns the number or its association with a person; buying readiness is a different question. Confirm the intended person, current role, relevant account and appropriate use before acting. Then measure useful conversations separately from number availability. Otherwise a report can show excellent phone coverage while the sales team still reaches the wrong stakeholders or pursues unsuitable accounts.

### Should every no-result record go to another enrichment provider?

Only while another lookup has a justified chance of adding useful information. First inspect whether the input is valid, the person is eligible and the required field is actually necessary. Stop when the remaining cases are outside scope or the expected marginal value no longer covers cost and review effort. Repeatedly enriching malformed or excluded records wastes money without expanding useful coverage.

### How should an evaluation handle a person who changes employers?

Treat the person and employment relationship separately. Preserve the existing account history, confirm the new employer and check whether the new role fits the target population. Do not silently replace an old company association and carry every previous status into the new relationship. Record the evidence and apply current ownership, suppression and field rules before any new workflow starts.

### What if one vendor wins the overall sample but loses our priority segment?

Report that difference explicitly. An overall average can hide poor coverage in the geography, industry or role that produces most of the business value. Compare segment sample sizes, uncertainty, accepted output and cost. A specialized source for the difficult segment may be justified, but test its incremental contribution and operating burden rather than adding another subscription solely because its headline average looks stronger.
