ChatGPT can help investigate a campaign, reconcile reports and turn marketing data into a useful decision. The result depends on what it can actually retrieve, which definitions it uses and whether you can check the calculation. Connecting GA4, HubSpot and your warehouse is the beginning of that work.

Start with one question: which campaigns produced qualified leads, why did a funnel rate change, or where do two reports disagree? Give ChatGPT the evidence for that question and a clear output to produce. Asking it to “analyse our marketing” invites a broad answer with an unclear basis.

This guide covers the current connection routes, a repeatable setup process and a small worked example you can use to test the analysis before involving live customer data.

## Choose the connection that fits the question

There are three useful starting points. Use an approved file export for a bounded investigation, a supported plugin for data already available through that integration, or a custom MCP connection for tools your team operates.

OpenAI's current [plugin guidance](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/plugins) describes installing from the Plugins Directory, completing any required service connection and selecting the plugin with `@` in a conversation. Installing a bundle and authorizing access to a service are separate steps. Check the connected identity as well as the plugin name.

The label on a vendor's setup page may still say app or connector. Follow the current connection flow in your workspace and verify the publisher. A marketplace listing, a local MCP repository and a running authenticated service are different things.

If you only need to compare two monthly exports, begin there. [ChatGPT Work's file guidance](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/artifacts-viewer) supports attaching source files and reviewing generated files. Ask for the calculation and supporting rows alongside the written explanation, then retain the inputs used for that analysis.

## Connect HubSpot with the official integration

HubSpot's [ChatGPT connector documentation](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/integrations/connect-your-hubspot-account-to-chatgpt) requires a HubSpot Super Admin to approve the connector, its data permissions and who can install it. Users then connect their accounts and remain limited by their HubSpot permissions. The connector supports creating and updating records as well as reading them, so an analytics setup needs deliberate action controls.

A practical setup sequence is:

1. Have the HubSpot administrator approve the required data and installer access.
2. Find the official HubSpot integration in ChatGPT, complete authorization and confirm the intended HubSpot account.
3. Configure available action controls for the analysis workflow. Keep write tools unavailable where supported, or require approval for writes you intentionally retain.
4. Start a new conversation and select HubSpot explicitly.
5. Retrieve one known deal and compare its ID, owner, amount and stage with the CRM.

HubSpot notes that users must reconnect after an administrator approves additional connector data permissions. It also documents engagement-data restrictions when Sensitive Data is enabled. Treat an unavailable note or activity as an access or coverage question, not proof that the activity never happened.

Use the [HubSpot MCP guide](https://www.martechdevs.com/blog/hubspot-mcp-server) for a deeper review of connector setup and reporting checks. For this workflow, keep the first request narrow enough that someone can verify it in a minute.

## Connect GA4 without confusing a local server with a hosted app

Google's [Analytics MCP introduction](https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/MCP) describes a read-only server that cannot change Analytics configuration. Its [official repository](https://github.com/googleanalytics/google-analytics-mcp) documents a locally launched process, Google credentials and reporting tools. That setup does not itself create a connection inside ChatGPT on the web.

For a recurring ChatGPT workflow, choose a compatible hosted connector or have an engineer expose the approved server through a supported connection route. Evaluate the actual property access, report fields, freshness and retrieval limits. Do not assume every integration carrying a GA4 label returns the same data.

For an occasional investigation, export the exact GA4 report you want to analyse. Save the property, dates, time zone, dimensions, metrics and filters with the file. A screenshot can help explain a discrepancy, but a structured export is more useful for recalculation.

If the question only needs the selected Analytics property, [GA4's Ask Advisor](https://www.martechdevs.com/blog/ga4-ai) is another route worth checking before setting up an external connection. Keep its in-product analysis separate from measuring visits through the AI Assistant acquisition channel.

The [Google Analytics MCP setup guide](https://www.martechdevs.com/blog/google-analytics-mcp-server) covers the Google-side prerequisites. Once connected, compare one metric for one complete day before introducing channel breakdowns or cross-system joins.

## Connect Google Ads through a verified tool path

Google's current [Google Ads MCP repository](https://github.com/googleads/google-ads-mcp) documents both local credential-based operation and a server deployment using Streamable HTTP with OAuth support. It exposes account discovery, resource metadata and search tools, with configurable tool namespaces. These are implementation capabilities, not a claim that the repository installs itself as an official one-click ChatGPT plugin.

Confirm the customer account, manager-account context where applicable, currency and reporting time zone. Ask for stable campaign IDs alongside names. Two accounts can use the same campaign name, and a renamed campaign should not become a new identity in your analysis.

Before comparing spend with CRM outcomes, specify the conversion action or CRM outcome you mean. “Conversions” without a definition can combine a different set of events from the one your team uses to qualify leads.

For setup details, use the [Google Ads MCP guide](https://www.martechdevs.com/blog/google-ads-mcp-server). Keep credentials in the connection or server configuration, not in a prompt or an uploaded reporting file.

## Use custom MCP connections deliberately

OpenAI's current [custom MCP server guide](https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/custom-mcp-server) uses ChatGPT on the web: open Plugins, add a custom MCP server, configure its connection and authentication, then install the resulting plugin. Workspace restrictions apply. Supported remote transports include SSE and streaming HTTP; select the route your server actually implements.

A browser session cannot start an arbitrary `pipx` command on your computer merely because you paste a local client configuration into the chat.

There is also a private-network option. OpenAI's [Secure MCP Tunnel documentation](https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/secure-mcp-tunnels) describes a customer-run client that can reach a private MCP server over stdio or HTTP without giving that server a public listener. Tunnel permissions in the Platform organization and custom-MCP access in the ChatGPT workspace are separate. The tunnel must be associated with the intended workspace.

Choose a managed connection path with an owner. For a private deployment, the owner must keep the tunnel or service available, maintain credentials and verify the client-server combination. Protocol support alone does not establish that a particular Google server, authentication flow and ChatGPT workspace have been tested together.

## Connect the warehouse to answer cross-system questions

Use the warehouse when the question needs established joins and business definitions across sources. A model such as one row per acquired account with a defined paid-conversion date is easier to check than a fresh join across raw CRM, event and invoice tables on every request.

Google's [remote BigQuery MCP documentation](https://docs.cloud.google.com/bigquery/docs/use-bigquery-mcp) provides the endpoint `https://bigquery.googleapis.com/mcp` and distinguishes permissions to call MCP tools, run jobs and read data. It includes an `execute_sql_readonly` tool, while other tools and permissions can permit broader operations. Its documented result limit is 3,000 rows, so aggregate within the approved query rather than treating a returned sample as the whole dataset.

Follow Google's [ChatGPT-specific OAuth setup](https://docs.cloud.google.com/mcp/configure-mcp-ai-application) for its remote services. The documented redirect URI is `https://chatgpt.com/connector_platform_oauth_redirect`; use the current client instructions and workspace requirements instead of borrowing the callback from a Claude configuration.

Record the project paying for jobs separately from the dataset being queried. Limit the connection to approved reporting resources, and test that unrelated data is inaccessible. The [BigQuery MCP guide](https://www.martechdevs.com/blog/bigquery-mcp-server) covers the wider setup and cost controls.

Other warehouses need their own supported authentication and tool configuration. The useful shared pattern is a maintained reporting model, scoped access and an answer that includes its query or source evidence.

## Write an analysis contract before the first prompt

Give the assistant the information that would let another analyst reproduce the answer:

- **Decision:** the action the report is intended to inform.
- **Scope:** account, property, dataset and included population.
- **Time:** reporting dates, time zone, outcome window and data cutoff.
- **Definitions:** event names, lifecycle criteria, attribution rule and currency.
- **Evidence:** source files or tool results, queries, counts and known limitations.
- **Output:** calculations, unresolved issues and recommended checks.

Choose a source of authority for each measure. Use the ad platform for the defined ad-spend figure, the agreed analytics report for its behavioural measure, and the approved CRM model for the qualification outcome. Explain differences before trying to make totals agree.

## A worked example: campaign cost versus qualified leads

The following fictional files describe two campaigns in one USD account. All reporting dates use UTC. They are simplified exports created for this example, not results from a connected account.

Ad spend covers 1–30 September 2026. GA4 counts the specified `demo_request` key event during the same period. CRM leads were created during September, deduplicated under an agreed person-level rule and assigned to their first recorded paid campaign. The CRM qualification window is seven days after lead creation, with data checked through 10 October. Every September lead therefore has the full observation window.

The illustrative `ads.csv` contains already-normalized USD amounts:

```csv
campaign_id,campaign_name,spend_usd
101,Brand Search,1200
202,Category Search,4800
```

The illustrative `ga4.csv` counts events, not unique leads:

```csv
campaign_id,demo_request_key_events
101,60
202,80
```

The illustrative `crm.csv` retains leads without a usable campaign ID:

```csv
campaign_id,leads_created,qualified_within_7_days
101,40,10
202,50,20
unallocated,8,2
```

Ask ChatGPT to analyse those three files with this original prompt:

> Use only the attached files and the stated definitions. Validate column types and unique campaign rows. Join campaign aggregates by campaign_id, retain unmatched rows, and show all totals before calculating ratios. Calculate spend per GA4 demo-request key event, CRM qualification rate and spend per attributed qualified lead for campaigns 101 and 202. Report campaign-allocation coverage and the unallocated counts. Do not treat events as unique people, invent attribution for missing IDs or claim that the results prove incremental revenue. Include the calculations and a reproducible output file.

The expected arithmetic is:

- Brand Search: $1,200 ÷ 60 = **$20 per key event**; 10 ÷ 40 = **25% qualification**; $1,200 ÷ 10 = **$120 per attributed qualified lead**.
- Category Search: $4,800 ÷ 80 = **$60 per key event**; 20 ÷ 50 = **40% qualification**; $4,800 ÷ 20 = **$240 per attributed qualified lead**.
- Across the files: **$6,000 spend**, **140 key events**, **98 CRM leads** and **32 qualified leads**.
- Campaign allocation covers 90 of 98 CRM leads, approximately **91.8%**. Eight leads and two qualified leads remain unallocated.

Do not divide 32 by 140 and label the result a lead qualification rate. One number counts CRM people meeting a defined outcome; the other counts GA4 events. The example supplies no person-level mapping that makes those populations equivalent.

Do not distribute the unallocated leads across campaigns in proportion to spend. That would replace missing evidence with an assumption and make the output appear more complete than it is.

The spend-to-qualified-lead ratios are descriptive under the stated period and attribution rule. They do not establish what would happen if you moved budget. Brand Search may be capturing demand created elsewhere; this dataset cannot settle that question. Review intent, coverage and marginal performance, and use an appropriate experiment when the decision requires evidence of incremental impact.

## Three prompts for recurring investigations

### Find the reporting discrepancy before explaining it

> Compare the two supplied reports for the same account and dates. First list differences in metric definition, time zone, attribution, included records, data cutoff and filters. Reconcile the totals using the available rows. Keep each unexplained difference visible and identify the additional evidence needed. Do not choose a preferred total just because one is larger or appears in the dashboard.

This is useful when finance and marketing disagree. It makes the definition conflict inspectable before the assistant starts explaining business performance.

### Investigate a funnel change with a stable denominator

> Use the approved funnel definition and two fully observed cohorts. Show the number eligible for each step, the number completing it within the outcome window, and the exclusions. Compare by the agreed acquisition segment. Separate a change in segment mix from a change within a segment. If the necessary user or account mapping is unavailable, explain what cannot be calculated.

Keep the cohort and observation window in the saved report. A newer cohort with less time to convert should not silently be compared with a mature one.

### Produce a weekly decision memo

> Use this week's verified analysis files. Write a short memo with the three most consequential changes, the evidence for each, unresolved measurement issues and the decision each finding could inform. Separate observations, hypotheses and proposed actions. Link to the source output for every number. Do not edit campaigns, budgets or CRM records.

The prompt describes the intended work. Actual tool permissions must enforce the access boundary; a sentence in a prompt does not disable a write-capable connection.

## Check access and data handling before scaling the workflow

OpenAI's [workspace plugin controls](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/enterprise/apps-and-connectors) separate plugin availability, connected-service access, action controls and authenticated identity. They also distinguish indexed sync from non-synced retrieval. Neither mode replaces normal conversation-retention controls.

For Business, Enterprise and Edu customers, that guidance states that information accessed through these connections is not used for model training. The connected service's own scopes, retention and residency policies also apply. This does not mean every vendor in the path has the same policy or that no data is retained.

For the first analytics workflow, use only the fields needed for the decision. Aggregated campaign results usually do not require customer email addresses. Confirm which personal or shared identity runs the connection, and test access with a representative team member rather than relying only on an administrator's successful session.

Save the report specification, input cutoff, queries or exports and accepted output. Record missing rows and failed tools. If a retrieval fails, rerun the retrieval or report the gap; do not let a plausible answer substitute for the unavailable data.

## A launch checklist for a dependable report

- [ ] Choose one decision and an existing report to reconcile against.
- [ ] Verify the integration publisher and connected account identity.
- [ ] Confirm available tools, source permissions and action controls.
- [ ] Fix the date range, time zone, currency and outcome window.
- [ ] Define every numerator, denominator and attribution rule.
- [ ] Retrieve one known record or small report before combining systems.
- [ ] Check row coverage, unmatched IDs, duplicate keys and totals.
- [ ] Preserve the calculation and distinguish evidence from hypotheses.
- [ ] Have the report owner review the result before it informs a change.
- [ ] Recheck the workflow when schemas, connectors or definitions change.

When these checks fail because the systems disagree about customers or revenue, work on the shared data foundation. Our [AI-ready marketing data service](https://www.martechdevs.com/ai-ready-data) focuses on those definitions, connections and reporting models so the assistant has a dependable basis for its answers.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can ChatGPT read Google Analytics data?

Yes, through a suitable connected tool or a report export you provide. Google's Analytics MCP server supplies read-only reporting access, but its local setup is not automatically a ChatGPT web connection. Verify the hosting or tunnel route, authenticated property access and the report fields supported by the chosen integration.

### How do I connect HubSpot to ChatGPT?

Use the official HubSpot integration after a HubSpot Super Admin approves the necessary access. Complete authorization in the intended ChatGPT workspace, select the integration and verify a known record. Review the available action controls because the connector can support writes as well as reads.

### Can ChatGPT connect directly to Google Ads?

A compatible integration can query Google Ads using authorized account access. Google's MCP repository provides server implementation options; the ChatGPT connection and authentication still need configuration. Verify the exact tools and customer account instead of assuming that a local setup file or an installed plugin has completed every prerequisite.

### Is it safe to connect our CRM to ChatGPT?

That depends on the workspace, connected identity, scopes, action controls and data-handling terms you configure. Start with a narrow analytics use case and the minimum required fields. Test actual access and retained outputs. A successful login proves connectivity, not that the entire setup meets your organisation's requirements.

### Can we trust ChatGPT's marketing recommendations?

Trust the evidence you can reproduce and the limits it makes visible. Check calculations, definitions, retrieval coverage and causal claims. A correct campaign-cost ratio can support an investigation without proving that a budget move will improve revenue. Keep the person accountable for the decision involved in that final interpretation.
